The Shrek 5 trailer has been released, and one key character’s absence could have surprisingly significant LEGO ramifications.
The first official teaser for Shrek 5 has dropped, showing Shrek, Fiona, and their family embarking on an adventure in a place called Further, Further Away.
However, one major character who has appeared in three of the four Shrek films is missing throughout the trailer: Puss in Boots.
The swashbuckling feline, voiced by Antonio Banderas, is a notable absence from the teaser, especially as other familiar faces such as Donkey and the Gingerbread Man do appear. His absence could have a significant knock-on effect for LEGO sets.
Currently, Puss in Boots is the only Shrek character available as a LEGO minifigure, as other characters have only appeared as buildable figures or BrickHeadz models. He features in 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots, his only minifigure appearance to date.

While a Shrek minifigure series is confirmed for November, details remain under wraps. If the series draws from Shrek 2, Shrek the Third, or Shrek Forever After, Puss could still receive another minifigure.
However, if the series is instead based on the first film or the upcoming fifth instalment, we may not see another Puss in Boots minifigure for some time.
Although he is absent from the trailer, there is still a slim possibility Puss in Boots appears in the final film. The LEGO Group may also choose to expand the range with additional sets from past movies where he could feature. But for now, his absence from the teaser could be an early warning sign for fans who do not yet own the ginger-furred hero.
At 1,403 pieces, 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots is available now from LEGO.com for £109.99 / $129.99 / €119.99. 40923 Shrek, Donkey & Gingerbread Man Figures is also available for £19.99 / $24.99 / €24.99.
